22 October 2019

Retail sales advanced 9.8% yoy in real terms in 9M19, slowing from 9.9% yoy in 8M19, Ukraine’s State Statistics Service reported on Oct. 21.

In September, retail increased 8.9% yoy and declined 3.3% m/m in real terms.

Regionally, the highest retail growth in 9M19 occurred in the Vinnytsia (17.6% yoy), Ternopil (16.9% yoy) and Kyiv (15.7% yoy) regions. It was slowest in the Chernivtsi (-1.4% yoy), Chernihiv (1.0% yoy), and Zakarpattia (1.4% yoy) regions.

Evgeniya Akhtyrko: Apparently, seasonal price growth in September resulted in slower growth of retail sales in real terms. We expect real retail to increase 8-9% yoy in 2019 (vs. 5.8% yoy in 2018).
