Ukraine not on latest E.U. country list for non-essential visits

1 July 2020

The E.U. Council decided on June 30 to allow foreigners for non-essential visits from a list of countries that doesn’t include Ukraine, the eurointegration.com.ua news site said. Residents of Ukraine who are allowed entry to the E.U. include foreigners, diplomats and citizens who have proof of business activity, educational activity, and those with residency in an E.U. country, among others (like sailors).

The ruling applies to all residents – including Ukrainian citizens – in those countries, which were determined based on their epidemiological statistics, restrictive measures and socio-economic considerations. The number of COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks, and per 100,000 residents, are supposed to be close to the E.U. average, with a stabilizing or declining trend. The list will be renewed every two weeks.

Tourist destinations that have opened their borders to Ukrainians include Turkey, Croatia, Albania, Montenegro (with PCR test results) and Egypt (with a self-quarantine requirement upon return), Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Krykliy said today on his Telegram channel.

Cases of the COVID-19 disease caused by the coronavirus reached 664 on June 30, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov reported at his daily briefing this morning. An estimated 14 patients died, while 433 recovered.

Zenon Zawada: The consistent decline in infection rates for the last four days are a source of relief. With these receding dynamics, Ukrainians stand a chance to gain access to the E.U. based on its next review in two weeks.
