Cabinet makes changes to driving and car import issues

16 September 2021

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine passed a resolution on Sept. 15 to begin experiments with processing customs and VAT for individuals importing automobiles. The experiments will cover being able to upload the paperwork required as well as pay the fees for the import process, pravda.com.ua reports.

The Cabinet also passed a resolution allowing driving schools to organize online classes for learning the theory part of the driving test.

James Hydzik: While permission to hold driving theory classes online may sound like a latecomer to the COVID era, the experiments with processing auto imports online has longer-term ramifications. Automating a process that is perceived by the tens of thousands of people importing cars as leaving them vulnerable to corruption will do far more to change perceptions than harangueing them to not pay bribes. As we have stated before, this is one area that the Zelensky government definitely understands fighting corruption.
