Real wages in Ukraine grew 8.1% yoy in June,
accelerating from 7.0% yoy growth in May, the State Statistics Service reported
on July 29. The average monthly nominal wage amounted to UAH 10,783 a month
(USD 407), increasing from UAH 10,239 in May, or 5.8% m/m in real terms.
The leading regions for average monthly wages were the
city of Kyiv (UAH 15,650), the Ukrainian-controlled Donetsk region (UAH
12,483), and the Kyiv region (UAH 11,130).
The largest nominal average wage growth was in
recreation services (32.2% yoy), information and telecommunications (25.5%
yoy), industry (21.8% yoy) and health (21.8% yoy). Within the industrial
sector, the highest nominal wages were in pharmaceuticals (UAH 18,443), coke
and oil production (UAH 16,212), and mining (UAH 15,289).
Evgeniya Akhtyrko: Apparently, cooling inflation contributed
to faster growth of real wages in June. Accelerating wages in industry, amid the decline in the sector’s output,
implies boosted demand for labor on the market.
We expect real wages to climb 9-10% yoy in 2019
(vs. 12.5% yoy in 2018).
