Ukraine exported 50.4 mmt of grain in the 2018/19
marketing year ending in June, or 37.0% more yoy, according to an Agrarian
Ministry report on July 15. This is a record-high number for the country.
Ukraine exported 15.6 mmt of wheat (a 9.1% decline yoy) and 29.8 mmt of corn (a
68.1% jump yoy) in the marketing year.
Andriy Perederey: The
increase in grain exports was in line with the better harvest in the 2018
calendar year, when the weather conditions were favorable for corn. Its average
yield was 7.5 t/ha, or 45% higher yoy in 2018. Weather hindering the wheat
harvest decreased its quality. The average yield of winter wheat decreased 9.7%
yoy to 3.7 t/ha in 2018.
We expect that the 2019/20 marketing year will
bring an even better exports result due to favorable weather conditions for
Ukraine’s main crops, namely wheat and corn.
