Communications crisis continues in Ukrainian gov't circles

Communications crisis continues in Ukrainian gov't circles

19 May 2017

The Razumkov Center released the results of its latest sociological poll of confidence in Ukrainian institutions. Outside of the military (55.9%) and emergency services (45%), few government organs breached a 20% level of trust. President and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine were trusted by 22% and 21% of respondents, respectively.

James Hydzik: Cronyism and corruption aside, the results of the latest polls also show that the government is still mired in failed communications practices. This is in part a legacy of incomplete reform of Soviet legislation – for example, until 2015 all government communication was legally required to be cleared by State Security Service of Ukraine. The government has finally made some steps in reform, but clearly and loudly informing the citizenry – and investors – about the proper steps it takes, and why, is still not a high priority, and the trust figures reflect this.
