Ukraine-EU summit postponed beyond May 19, RFE/RL reports

Ukraine-EU summit postponed beyond May 19, RFE/RL reports

27 April 2016

The Ukraine-EU summit planned for May 19 in Brussels has been postponed, reported on April 26 Rikard Jozwiak, a reporter for Radio Free Europe-Radio Liberty. “Ukraine government needs more time for reform,” he tweeted, without citing his source in the EU government. He also reported the same day that the European Parliament vote to introduce a visa-free regime with Ukraine and Georgia won’t occur until September, which was denied by Iryna Herashchenko, the first vice chair of Ukraine’s parliament.

Zenon Zawada: The postponement is merely the latest disappointing news from Kyiv. Unfortunately, we are not confident the government under Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman will do much to meet EU expectations for reform. Similar such delays are entirely possible in the future.
