EBRD considers up to USD 300 mln loan for Ukraine to purchase gas

EBRD considers up to USD 300 mln loan for Ukraine to purchase gas

15 July 2015

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is considering the possibility of providing a USD 250-300 mln loan to Ukraine, the Interfax news agency reported on July 14, citing the bank’s Ukraine director Sevki Acuner. The possible loan facility will be used to purchase natural gas from the EU to increase Ukraine’s stockpiles ahead of winter season, he said.

Alexander Paraschiy: Any lending from an international financial organization would be helpful for Ukraine to ensure greater gas stockpiles for the winter and higher gross foreign reserves. The facility, if provided, will enable Naftogaz to purchase 1.2-1.4 bcm of gas out of 6-7 bcm needed to increase its stockpiles by the start of the heating season (mid-October).
