Majority of Ukrainians support EU integration, oppose Russian integration

About 54.5 percent of Ukrainians support joining the European Union, compared to 24 percent for the Customs Union, according to a poll conducted by the Razumkov Center and Reitynh Sociological Group that was released on April 23. More than 60 percent support the Association Agreement, compared to 25 percent against. Nearly 36 percent of respondents support NATO membership, while 48 percent are against. Only 7.5 perent support Ukraine merging with the Russian Federation, while nearly 85 percent are against. Only 8.5 percent support their oblast of residence joining the Russian Federation, compared to 85 percent against. The poll involved 3,011 respondents who were questioned between March 28 and April 2.

 

Zenon Zawada: These are merely the latest round of overwhelming evidence that the residents of southeastern Ukraine have no interest in the Russian federalization campaign, let alone annexation. Yet the problem lies in their passivity, which is paving the way for pro-Russian radicals to set the political agenda.
