World Bank: Ukraine among most improved in doing business in CEE

24 October 2012

The World Bank named Ukraine and Poland the two countries in the CEE that have done the most to improve the ease of doing business in the last year. Ukraine has made progress on starting a business (eliminating the minimum capital requirement for company incorporation), registering property (introducing a time limit for processing transfer applications in Kyiv) and paying taxes (implementing e-filing and payment for medium & large businesses). Overall, Ukraine improved its position in the international ranking by 15 positions from 152 to 137 out of 185 economies. Components of the ranking include starting a business, dealing with construction permits, employing workers, registering property, getting credit, protecting investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts, closing a business. Doing Business was first published in 2003 to provide an objective measure of business regulations and enforcement. More details are available at www.doingbusiness.org.
