Ukraine’s balance of payments current account deficit for 2009 amounted to USD 1.9 bln (-1.6% of GDP), down from USD 12.8 bln (-7.1% of GDP) in 2008, according to preliminary data released by the National Bank of Ukraine yesterday. The capital account deficit equaled USD 11.8 bln (-10.3% of GDP) in 2009 vs. a surplus of USD 9.6 bln (+5.4% of GDP) in 2008. Mykyta Mykhaylychenko: For 2010, we foresee the current account turning positive, with a surplus of up to +1.7% of GDP, while the capital account deficit might shrink to ~ -3.4% of GDP.
