Rada overrides veto on land sale moratorium

20 January 2010

The Verkhovna Rada voted yesterday to override the presidential veto on legislation that extended the moratorium on the sale of agricultural land until 2012. A total of 326 of 466 deputies voted in favor of the move. The law does not cancel out provisions of the land code that would allow for the sale of agricultural land after parliament adopts laws “On the land market” and “On the state land cadastre”. The moratorium has been in effect since 2002.
