NBU: External debt due in 2H09 exceeds USD 11 bln

11 June 2009

The National Bank of Ukraine said that corporate and state debt payments due in 2H09 exceed USD 11 bln (via Interfax). The figure includes USD 9 bln in debt to be paid by the corporate sector and USD 2 bln from the state. Andrii Parkhomenko: In a December report on Ukraine, the IMF estimated that external debt payments would total USD 39.6 bln in 2009. The USD 11 bln announced by the NBU suggests that the brunt of the debt payments in 2009 is due in 1H09. However, taking into account that a significant portion of debt has been restructured, we estimate that actual debt payments will not exceed USD ~30 bln in 2009.
