Yushchenko blocks privatization of state mines

In an order on Friday, President Viktor Yushchenko ordered a stop to preparations to privatize 99 state coal mines, and sent an appeal to Ukraine’s Constitutional Court, citing procedural issues, to further block the measure. On April 2 the Cabinet of Ministers ordered the sale of the state’s stakes in 99 coal mines via open tenders this year.
