Ukraine could stop importing electricity from Russia starting December 1

9 October 2008

Ukraine could stop importing electricity from Russia, starting December 1, Volodymyr Luchnikov, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Fuel and Energy, announced this week. According to Luchnikov, Ukraine will go on importing Russian electricity, until it ensures sufficient steam coal in storages. Ukraine began importing up to 500 MW of electricity from Russia on September 15. Alexander Paraschiy: In fact, Russia itself could stop selling its electricity to Ukraine in October-November, when the seasonal increase in internal power demand will significantly limit Russia’s exporting capacity.
