Coal Minister Proposes to Dig Four New Mines

20 September 2008

Serhy Tulub, coal minister, said the government would build four new coal mines, without giving a time frame. He said one each would be built in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Luhansk and Lviv oblasts, and that he personally saw an unfinished coking coal mine in Dobropol, Donetsk oblast, as the best prospect. He said the government would also close to finishing the mine Novovolynska No. 10 in Volyn oblast, with $70m invested and only another ~$20m needed to finish the mine. Eugene Cherviachenko: This is further evidence of the new government’s focus on developing the coal sector, which will benefit domestic coal machinery producers
