Money supply up 1.6% mom in 2008, monetary base 3.2% mom

Ukraine’s money supply rose 1.6% mom to UAH 474.7 bln (USD 97.7 bln) in August, the National Bank of Ukraine said yesterday. The monetary base grew 3.2% mom to UAH 169 bln (USD 34.8 bln). Polina Khomenko: The NBU has stuck to its counterinflationary policy. Since the beginning of 2008 growth in the money supply (+19.8% YTD) and monetary base (+19.1% YTD) has been one of the lowest rates in the last 10 years. To compare, money supply and monetary base growth in August 2007 were 3.8% mom and 4.2% mom respectively.
