Yushchenko Orders Coal Mines To Prepare For Privatization.

23 August 2008

Yushchenko set the privatization of coal mines as the primary goal for the newly elected Minister of Coal Industry, Viktor Topolov. Yushchenko said that Topolov has a year to solve a problem which could not be solved over the last 14 years. Concorde Capital: To efficiently privatize coal mines, the Coal Industry Ministry must solve the problems connected to their profitability and high debts, which cannot be done without legislation support: note that the drafting of similar problem solving legislation for electricity and gas companies took two years to be approved by the Parliament. Thus, we doubt that coal mines will be ready for privatization in one year.
