The US company AES received permission from the Antimonopoly Committee to supply electricity at unregulated tariffs through its subsidiary Energoline. AES said that Energoline would supply electricity to industrial enterprises in central and eastern regions of Ukraine. AES currently operates two local energy distribution companies, Rivneoblenergo (ROEN) and Kievoblenergo (KOEN). Alexander Paraschiy: AES is trying to get in on a business that is already crowded with local independent suppliers. If AES succeeds it could eat into the profits of oblenergos. The key to success is developing relationships with major customers, which isn’t easy. Also AES still needs to obtain a license from the National Electricity Regulation Commission.
