Ukrainian Railway Monopoly Announces Modernization Plans For Euro-2012

Last Friday, Ukraine’s state railway monopoly Ukraliznytsya announced its modernization plans for the improvement of the country’s railway infrastructure in the run-up to the European Football Championships in 2012. Ukrzaliznytsya plans to upgrade over 1160 km of tracks, replace over 1460 switches, modernize 232 railway stations and install over 708 km of electric wiring to provide improved and greater high-speed railway links between cup cities. Ukrzaliznytsya plans will require over USD 22 bln in funding. The company has already announced plans to place a USD 100-200 mln Eurobond to help cover modernization costs. Inna Perepelytsya: The modernization of Ukraine’s rail links will bring orders for several Ukrainian companies including Odesa Cable (OCAB: BUY), Dnipropetrovsk Switch (DTRS), Luhanskteplovoz (LTPL: BUY), Kryukiv Wagon (KVGZ).
