State-Owned Aircraft Manufacturers May Consolidate

31 May 2008

President Viktor Yushchenko has said the government will decide on whether to integrate Ukraine’s state-owned aircraft makers within two weeks. Antonov, ?Aviant? and Kharkiv state aviation enterprises would be integrated according to the plan. Antonov is opposed to the idea, as it is owed significant debt by the Kharkiv plant, which it is unlikely to receive if a joint concern is created. Concorde Capital: Russia is also trying to consolidate its aviation industry and it would work closely with Ukraine. The aim is to compete more efficiently with world makers of regional planes, including Canada?s Bombardier and Brazil?s Embraer.
