According to the Minister of Fuel and Energy, Yuriy Boiko, the ministry is preparing a new gas pricing mechanism for individual consumers scheduled to be announced in July. The new system is set to substitute the existing differentiated pricing mechanism, introduced in December 2006, which has come under fire for unfair treatment of different categories of consumers, e.g. rural and urban households. In related news, a district court in Kharkiv suspended the ruling of the National Energy Regulation Commission “On retail prices for gas consumed by the population”. The ruling established differentiated tariffs for public consumers in December 2006.
