Ukraine To Expand Electricity Export In 2007.

13 February 2008

Acting Prime Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov announced Ukraine is going to double electricity exports to Belarus in 2007. This year Belarus agreed to purchase 2.5 TWh of Ukrainian electricity. In addition, Ukraine is planning to start electricity supply to Baltic states. Concorde Capital: The excess supply of electricity generating capacities and consequent under-utilization of equipment imply it is working at less than an optimal level. Increasing electricity exports will boost the load factor of Ukrainian power plants, decreasing their per-unit production costs. Thus this is a win-win situation as electricity exports bring in cash and reduce domestic electricity tariffs.
