Banking Sector Profits Up 37.7% In January

According to the National Bank, profits for the Ukrainian banking sector climbed 37.7% in January reaching USD 118 mln, up from USD 86 mln in 2005. Alexander Viktorov: This was remarkably high growth considering that January is traditionally a quiet month in the banking sector. The current drive by most Ukrainian banks toward higher return retail products is diving profits.
