System Capital Management (SCM) which mainly focuses on the metallurgy and energy sectors, continues to branch out into the telecommunications sector. The company added stakes in mobile operator DCC/Astelit, and Ukraine’s third largest alternative fixed line operator Farlep, the holding also showed interest to the fourth largest fixed alternative operator DSC, and two CDMA providers which cover about 60% of the CDMA market in Ukraine. In addition to this the SCM is finalizing a deal with Optima Telecom, the largest fixed alternative fixed line operator. Concorde Capital: If SCM is able to acquire all of these telecom companies, it will become powerful player in the sector, and offer sound competition to Ukrtelecom (UTEL: BUY) and the country’s major mobile operators. It is also possible that SCM will create a separate telecommunication holding and let it go public.
