G7 supports Ukraine in official communique

In its summit communique on June 13, the G7 leaders
reiterated their “support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial
integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders.” They also
stated they “remain firmly of the view that Russia is a party to the conflict
in Eastern Ukraine, not a mediator.” The leaders reiterated their aim “to
strengthen Ukraine’s democracy and institutions, encouraging further progress
on reform.”

The G7 also called on Iran to transparently
investigate the shooting-down of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 and
hold those responsible to account.

James Hydzik: Officially, Ukraine came out of the Carbis Bay summit in good shape,
with both Russia and Iran called out on Ukraine-related issues. The Ukrainian
government should take note, however, of the wording about strengthening
institutions and encouraging progress on reform.
