German Chancellor Angela Merkel opened the 4th
German-Ukrainian Business Forum in Berlin on March 19. The German leader spoke
about Ukraine’s economic potential. She pointed to mechanical engineering,
agriculture and IT in particular. Moreover, she called Ukraine a country worth
investing in.
Online media ukrinform.net states that she also
mentioned that trade between the two countries had grown to EUR 7.7 bln in
2019. Merkel did point as well to the fact that “some steps still need to be
taken” regarding the fight against corruption, the judiciary and the land
market.
James Hydzik: The forum is an opportunity for business leaders in the two countries
to reset relations after Brexit, the development of COVID vaccines, and the
election of US president Joe Biden. Considering the business focus, after more
than a year of turmoil and a degree of pent-up desire to move businesses
forward, the results are worth paying attention to.
