Real wages rise 8% yoy in November

Real wages in Ukraine rose 8.1% yoy in November,
slowing from 10.6% yoy growth in October, the State Statistics Service reported
on Dec. 28. The average monthly nominal wage amounted to UAH 11,987 a month
(USD 423), declining from UAH 12,174 in October, or 2.8% m/m in real terms.

The leading regions for average monthly wages were the
city of Kyiv (UAH 17,592), Ukrainian-controlled Donetsk (UAH 12,781) and the
Kyiv region (UAH 12,172). The largest nominal average wage increase was in
medicine and social services (48.5% yoy), “other services” (43.0% yoy), and
arts, sports, and entertainment (19.0% yoy).

Within the industrial sector, the highest growth of
nominal wages was in electricity and gas supply (17.4% yoy), water supply
(14.4% yoy), and the food industry (8.2% yoy).

Evgeniya Akhtyrko: The growth
of wages is slowing after intensified growth in September-October, when worker
compensation picked up after the quarantine-related fallout. In addition, the boosted inflation in November
also contributed to slower wage growth in real terms.
