Ukrainian and Chinese diplomats hold video conference while MSICH is on hold

Ukrainian and Chinese diplomats hold video conference while MSICH is on hold

2 September 2020

Ukrainian First Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Japarova
and First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China
Le Yuchen held a video conference on Sept. 1, the Ukrainian ministry reported.
Talks focused on expanding trade tries and Ukraine’s participation in China’s
Belt and Road Initiative.

James Hydzik: The meeting was held against the backdrop of the attempted purchase of
Ukrainian aviation engine maker Motor Sich (MSICH UK) by a joint venture
involving Ukraine’s DCH Investment Management and the Chinese Skyrizon. The
sale has drawn the attention of the Trump administration, which is actively
lobbying against the deal. As we noted on Sept. 1, the Ukrainian government is trying to delay making a final decision
for as long as possible.
