A new single-day record of COVID-19 cases was set in
Ukraine, reaching 1,197 on July 29, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov reported at
his daily press briefing this morning. An estimated 23 people died, while 760
recovered and 248 were hospitalized. A daily record was also reached of 199 in
Kyiv, the nation’s largest city.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 infection rate reached 161.4
per 100,000 on July 29, while the fatality rate was 2.4%, according to the
Center for Public Health at the Health Ministry. That’s compared to 50
infections per 100,000 on June 25, and a fatality rate of 2.6% then. In all,
67,600 Ukrainians have been infected, while 1,650 have died from the COVID-19
disease.
Zenon Zawada: No comments were reported in the mass media from top authorities,
including Stepanov, despite the disturbing trend. These latest numbers will
merely serve to dampen public sentiment, particularly in many areas of business.
