Single-day record of virus-related deaths reported in Ukraine

Single-day record of virus-related deaths reported in Ukraine

10 June 2020

A single-day record of 23 deaths from the COVID-19
disease caused by the coronavirus were recorded on June 9, Health Minister
Maksym Stepanov reported at his daily briefing this morning. About 525 new
infections were recorded the same day, including 49 medical workers, or 9.3% of
the total. About 357 recoveries were confirmed. As a result, the city of Kyiv
and seven regions did not meet requirements to emerge from the severe
quarantine/lockdown. To do so, new infections in a particular region can’t
exceed a rate of 12 per 100,000, while the rate in Kyiv is 15.2 per 100,000. The
highest rate is in the Chernivtsi region at 35.4 per 100,000.

Zenon Zawada: Both the new infections and death figures exceed those of the daily
amount of the last week. Authorities will be closely observing data in the
coming days to determine whether the June 9 figures are a single spike or the
signal of a second wave.
