Alchevsk Iron & Steel Launches New Steel Converter

According to Interfax, a new 3 mln mt steel converter has come on stream at Alchevsk Iron & Steel (ALMK: BUY). The company also confirmed its previous plans to launch another steel converter in 2Q08, after which the mill’s capacity will more than double to 9 mln mt, meeting our previous forecasts (see our flash note from yesterday for more).
