On the morning of Aug. 11, the Tesla model S belonging
to the former head of President Zelensky’s office, Andriy Bogdan, was set on
fire and destroyed. Media photos show the entire back half of the vehicle as
consumed. Law enforcement officers are treating the burning as arson.
Bohdan, who, before joining the Presidential Office,
had been the personal lawyer of Zelensky backer and billionaire Ihor
Kolomoisky, issued a thinly veiled threat to the arsonist(s) and those who
ordered the blaze exactly six months after his resignation from the Office.
“You’ve just thrown kerosene on the frying pan.’
James Hydzik: This event
is not important only in terms of who ordered the destruction of Bogdan’s car,
but also that the dark underside of Ukrainian politics, which also features
examples such as the threats, attacks, and arson directed against former
National Bank of Ukraine governor Valeriya Gontareva, is unlikely to change any
time soon.
