The governments of Canada, the UK, and US claimed on
Jan. 9 that they have evidence of the Iranian military shooting down Ukraine
International Airlines flight 752 with a ground-to-air missile. Reuters reports
that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, which lost 63 citizens in the
tragedy, stated that he had data from Canadian and other western sources, and
demanded a thorough investigation, saying that his government “would not rest”
until it had answers to the cause of the crash. At the same time, he specified
that he believed that the event was an accident.
Iran’s government has called on the Canadian
government to share its data on the crash, and has denied that the Boeing
737-800 was shot down by a missile. Reuters reports that the Ukrainian government
has also called for the crash site to be searched for missile debris.
