Decline in Ukraine organized retail trade slows down in September

17 October 2014

Ukraine’s organized retail trade declined 10.9% yoy in September after falling 17.1% yoy in the prior month, according to a State Statistics Service (Ukrstat) report released on Oct. 16. For 9M14, organized retail trade contracted 6.5% yoy after growing 6.2% yoy in the same year-ago period.

Alexander Paraschiy: Despite the improvement, the situation with consumption remains very tough. It might be some early signal of reviving consumption sentiments, as indicated by the GfK monthly survey, perhaps owing to a lull in the warfare in the east. And the rise is generally in line with our vision of private consumption trends. Since the economy remains volatile, we are keeping our private consumption forecast unchanged at -7.6% yoy for 2014.
