According to the State Statistics Committee, Ukraine’s foreign trade balance in goods widened to USD 3.75 bln in 5M07 (up 26.2% YTD). Export of goods totaled USD 18.9 bln (+34.4% yoy), while imports totaled USD 22.6 bln (+35.0% yoy). Polina Khomenko: The main export drivers in 5M07 were metals (+40.4% yoy), chemicals (+23.6% yoy) machine building (+50.2%). The main components of import growth were oil and gas products (+33.1% yoy), machine building and transport (+32.1% and +54.4% yoy). We estimate import and export growth to slow growth next month to 30.2%, and to 25.1% yoy in 2007. Our forecast for the negative trade balance is USD 6.2 bln by yearend.
