Alfa to decrease its stake in Turkcell

18 March 2009

According to Altimo (Russian Alfa Group’s telecom division) Vice President Kirill Babayev, quoted by Economicheskie Izvestia, the company is going to exercise divestiture provisions as ruled by a New York court (that stipulated the divestiture of all but one of Alfa’s telecom assets in Ukraine) via the sale of its stake in Turkcell. Currently Alfa owns 6.6% of Turkcell (which controls Ukraine’s third-largest mobile operator, Astelit) and 43.5% of leading mobile operator Kyivstar.
