Antimonopoly Committee Bans Antonov Corporation?

Antimonopoly Committee Bans Antonov Corporation?

14 October 2008

The Antimonopoly Committee has ruled that the creation of the Antonov corporation would significantly limit competition for repair and technical maintenance of certain types of Antonov planes. At the same time, AMC said the Cabinet may still allow the corporation to be created in spite of the Committee?s conclusion, if they find that the positive effect from the development of the corporation will outweigh the negative consequences of limited competition. The government recently approved the statutory documents of the Antonov corporation, which included the state-owned enterprises ANTK Antonov, Aviant, the Civil Aviation Plant 140 and the Kharkiv State Aviation Plant. The participants were supposed to retain their independent legal status, but lose the right to join with other enterprises or quit the corporation. Concorde Capital: The decision of the Antimonopoly Committee will most likely be overridden, as both the president and the government have been supporting the corporation. Besides, the so called ?soft? unification, preserves a certain degree of autonomy for the participants. Even ANTK Antonov, which was previously against the corporation, fearing it would lead to the canceling of debts owed to it by the Kharkiv State Aviation Plant has agreed to take part.
