Australia and Canada sanction Crimean bridge builders

Australia and Canada sanction Crimean bridge builders

30 March 2021

The governments of Australia and Canada announced on
March 29 sanctions related to the building of the bridge across the Kerch Strait.
Online media pravda.com.ua reports that the two countries laid financial
sanctions and travel bands against four Russian companies that  built the
bridge. Canada also sanctioned one individual, Australia, two.

James Hydzik: Sanctions are still part of the hybrid war, which continues along all
fronts. While the White House call between the head of Ukraine’s Presidential
Administration Andriy Yermak and U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan
focused in part on security issues, the main intent was to display support in
the fight in cleaning up the judiciary within Ukraine. These displays of
support, coming after last week’s escalation in Donbas, are essentially
geopolitical warnings. However, doing this three years after the UK sanctioned
the construction companies is not much of a warning.
