Biden taps Blinken, Grandson of Kyivan, for State Role

25 November 2020

President-Elect Joe Biden announced on Tuesday, Nov 25,
that he selected career diplomat Antony Blinken as his proposed Secretary of
State. Blinken served previously in turn as the national security advisor to
then Vice-President Biden’s and deputy national security advisor to President
Obama. He is also the author of a New York Times Opinion article calling upon
the Trump administration to arm Ukraine with lethal weapons. Wikipedia notes
that Blinken’s paternal grandfather emigrated from Tsarist Kyiv.

James Hydzik: Ukrainian media is alight with commentary regarding the Biden
presidency and now Blinken’s role as Secretary of State. Of one thing, the
pundits can be sure – the two top foreign policy spots in the American
government are filled by people who are quite knowledgeable about Ukraine and
the specificities of its situation.
