DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy holding, reported in a press release yesterday, that it decreased coal extraction 1.7% yoy to 8.6 mln mt, lowered electricity generation by 27.9% yoy at Vostokenergo and by 28.4% at Dniproenergo (DNEN), and also saw its electricity transmission decline 22.2% yoy to 5.6 TWh. At the same time, the company raised its share of Ukraine’s total coal production to 30.3%, electricity generation to 15.4%, and electricity distribution to 7.5%. DTEK said it was able to maintain coal production levels due to steady demand from its energy generation companies and recommencement of coal exports. It attributed the decline in energy production to decreasing consumption in Ukraine due to lower industrial production.
