In a press release yesterday the European Commission (EC) announced a EUR 33.25/mt duty on the ammonium nitrate originating from Ukraine. The anti-dumping investigation was initiated by the EC following a complaint from the European Fertilizer Manufacturers Association (EFMA) in 2005. The duty was initially imposed in 2001 and was lapsed in May 2005, prior to its scheduled expiration (Jan 2006). In 2006 Ukraine produced 1,951 ths mt of ammonium nitrate, of which 944 ths mt were exported. Ukraine’s four domestic producers, Azot Cherkasy (AZOT: Susp), Stirol (STIR: SELL), Azot Severodonetsk, and Rivneazot have almost equal shares in domestic production.
