The European Council
(EC) announced the latest semi-annual extension of its sanctions regime against
170 persons and 44 entities from the Russian Federation. The sanctions are now
in effect until March 1, 2020, according to a press release from the EC. The
press release mentions that “other EU measures in place in response to the
crisis in Ukraine include: 1) economic sanctions targeting specific sectors of
the Russian economy, currently in place until 31 January 2020; 2) restrictive
measures in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol,
limited to the territory of Crimea and Sevastopol, currently in place until 23
June 2020.
