Gazprom CEO says gas price for Ukraine can exceed USD 400/tcm in 2009

Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said yesterday, following a meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, that the gas price to Ukraine could exceed USD 400 per tcm as of January 1, 2009. Medvedev directed Gazprom to recover the USD 2.4 bln debt owed by Ukraine for natural gas deliveries. Naftogaz of Ukraine CEO Volodymyr Trikolich responded by saying that the debt stood at only USD 1.27 bln and was owed to intermediary RosUkrEnergo.
