Kyiv moving to Red quarantine level among record COVID deaths

Kyiv moving to Red quarantine level among record COVID deaths

21 October 2021

Kyiv mayor Vitaliy Klitschko stated that Kyiv is
progressing toward the Red quarantine level. The city saw almost 1200 new cases
and 39 deaths on Oct. 20, he reported via the mayor’s Telegram channel. “In
recent days”, 500 of the stricken had been hospitalized, and most of them are
in serious condition.

The mayor’s news comes as Ukraine reaches new
country-wide record totals. The Health Ministry reported that 22415 new cases
were registered on Oct. 20, and that there were 546 deaths. Also, the ministry
recorded a record 251,254 vaccinations on the same day.

James Hydzik: The numbers are only expected to rise further over the coming weeks.
The rise in vaccination may or may not have come with a rise in awareness in
the populace about the actual benefit of the vaccination. If not, then the
recently vaccinated will think they have immunity sooner than it actually
builds, or that they cannot pass on the virus, which they can. And
unfortunately, cases of vaccinated people passing COVID on to the unvaccinated
who subsequently die are occuring in Kyiv.
