President of France Emmanuel Macron is planning to
visit Kyiv. The announcement was made at an Aug. 24 press conference with
Ukrainian and French foreign ministers Dmytro Kuleba and Jean-Yves Le Drian,
pravda.com.ua reported on the same day. Le Drian stated that the French government’s
intention was for the visit to occur before the end of 2021.
James Hydzik: With German Chancellor Angela Merkel wrapping up her tenure, Macron,
who has been in power since 2017, will play a stabilizing role in EU diplomacy
while the new chancellor gets up to speed. That will be especially important
regarding Ukraine and the multilateral efforts involving the EU in Donbas.
