MTS Confirms Interest in Ukrtelecom Privatization

Andrei Dubovskov, the CEO of UMC, the Ukrainian division of Russian mobile operator MTS, said the company is interested in the privatization of Ukrtelecom (UTEL: HOLD), Ukrainian News reported yesterday. Alexander Paraschiy: If UMC (or its Russian owners) acquires Ukrtelecom, it will become the largest Ukrainian telecommunication operator, with more than 40% of the mobile market and more than 60% of the fixed line market in Ukraine. Both companies would definitely win from synergies.
