New Elections Scheduled For September 30

New Elections Scheduled For September 30

29 May 2008

On May 27, the President, Prime Minster and Rada Speaker signed an agreement ending Ukraine’s two-month political conflict and calling for new elections on September 30, following the passage of laws aimed at cutting out loopholes in the current election legislation and defining the powers of the president and government. Nick Piazza: It is going to be tricky for the divided Rada to pass all needed legislation in the small two-day window the President has given them, but on the whole, we believe the elections will happen this autumn but its going to be quite a bumpy run up to the elections. Look for our note on Ukraine’s political situation later today for more details.
