Odesa Portside Plant To Be Sold As Whole SPF

Odesa Portside Plant To Be Sold As Whole SPF

27 March 2008

The State Property Fund (SPF) has put forward a plan to Cabinet calling for the privatization of 100% of the Odesa Portside fertilizer plant. Nick Piazza: Before the jump in gas prices in 2006 there was a great deal of debate about how to privatize Odesa Portside. Initially the privatization was scheduled for December 2005, but then Yushchenko banned the company’s restructuring, aimed at splitting the ammonia and nitrogen fertilizers’ production from the ammonia storage and transportation facilities at the end of the Togliatti-Yuzhnyy ammonia pipeline. At the time the President said Odessa Portside should remain a single complex with the pipeline for economic and safety reasons. However, according to current legislation, the pipeline can not be privatized which puts a question mark next to the SPF’s plans.
