Odesaoblenergo becomes less dependent on Moldavian electricity network line

8 October 2008

Odesaoblenergo (ODEN: BUY) yesterday launched the Bolgrad-Budzak-Reni high-voltage (110 kV; length of ~96 km) power line in Odesa region. Total cost of the project was USD 33 mln. Alexander Paraschiy: The project has international implications: Ukraine now has bargaining power with Moldova in price setting on exported electricity. Without the line, supplying electricity south of Odesa region was possible only through Moldova – Ukraine had no choice but export electricity to Moldova at any price. According to Volodymyr Luchnikov, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Fuel and Energy, Ukraine plans to raise the export price to Moldova to the same level Ukraine charges UCTE countries, roughly 1.5x more.
